2024 Toyota Tacoma vs 2024 Toyota Tundra: Which Truck Is for You? | Breinigsville, PA

2024 Toyota Tacoma | Breinigsville, PA

When shopping for a Toyota truck at Krause Toyota in Breinigsville, PA, you will have two options: the Toyota Tacoma and the Toyota Tundra. How do these trucks differ, and which one is right for you? Here is a helpful explanation.

Toyota truck differences: Overall size

The biggest difference between the Tacoma and Tundra is the size. The Tacoma is a midsize pickup, while the Tundra is a full-size pickup. The Tundra is wider, longer, and heavier, which can be either a benefit or a drawback depending on your needs here in Breinigsville.

The Tundra is better if you’re working on a farm or running an active business and simply need a truck with the most space and capability. On the other hand, if you drive your truck long distances or want something more maneuverable and with a smaller carbon footprint, the Tacoma is your best bet. It’s still plenty capable, just not quite on the same level as the Tundra.

Toyota truck differences: Price and trims

The main tradeoff for the Tundra’s greater size and power is its higher price. The Tacoma is offered at an impressive 11 trim levels, with starting MSRPs ranging from $31,500-$63,900.[1] The Tundra, on the other hand, is offered at six trim levels, with MSRPs ranging from $39,965-$78,845.[1]

As you can see, though the Tacoma is more affordable, there is still a lot of overlap in the two trucks’ prices, so it’s important to look at the specific features you want to get a better sense of how much you would pay at Krause Toyota.

Toyota truck differences: Cabs and beds

One notable difference between the Toyota pickups is the available cab and bed sizes. The Tacoma is more configurable than most midsize trucks, as it comes with two bed sizes (5 feet and 6 feet long) and with either a Double Cab or XtraCab depending on the trim level. The Tundra has even more available options: two cabs (Double or CrewMax), and three beds (5 feet, 6 feet, or 8 feet). Thanks to the Tacoma’s numerous trim levels, it’s still fairly even between the two when it comes to configuration possibilities.

Toyota truck differences: Engines and capability

The Tacoma and Tundra both use i-FORCE engines and both offer optional hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrains. The engines in the Tundra are larger and more powerful, though, cranking out a maximum 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque, compared to 389 hp and 479 lb-ft in the Tacoma.

Consequently, the Toyota Tundra can tow more: up to 12,000 pounds, an increase from 6,500 pounds by the Tacoma. The maximum payload these Toyota trucks can haul in the bed is similar, though: 1,940 pounds in the Tundra and 1,709 pounds in the Tacoma.

Toyota truck differences: Multimedia technology

The two Toyota trucks feature much of the same technologies when it comes to the multimedia system. They both offer 8-inch or 14-inch touch-screen displays with wireless Apple CarPlay®, wireless Android Auto, and an optional Wi-Fi hotspot. A wireless charging pad and premium JBL® sound system are also offered for both trucks. When it comes to tech and connectivity, it’s a very similar experience in the cab.

Toyota truck differences: Safety features

Both trucks are equipped with standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, a suite of advanced driver assistance systems. It includes features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assistance. Both trucks were also named a 2024 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Toyota truck differences: Off-road performance

If you’re looking to go off the beaten path in Pennsylvania, the Tacoma and Tundra are offered with trim levels devoted to exceptional overlanding capability. For the Tundra, we’d recommend checking out the TRD Pro with its BBS® forged-aluminum wheels, 1.1-inch lift, and off-road FOX® shocks. The Tacoma gives you more options here with a wide range of TRD trims and a new-for-2024 Trailhunter trim, which gets Old Man Emu® 2.5-inch shocks and high-clearance front bumper.

If you need a truck for play, the Tacoma may be the better choice; if you need a truck for work or to tow heavy loads, the Tundra is the model that fits the bill. Visit Krause Toyota in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, for a closer look at both trucks!
